Farangems is a gem house built on one simple idea: the most beautiful natural stones should reach collectors and jewellers directly, honestly described and fairly priced, without a long chain of middlemen in between.
Where we work
Our head office is at the Jewelry Trade Center on Silom Road, Bangkok, the tower at the centre of Thailand's coloured-gemstone trade. Bangkok is where much of the world's sapphire, spinel and ruby is cut, traded and certified, and working here puts us within walking distance of the cutters, dealers and laboratories the industry relies on. We also operate an office in Peshawar, Pakistan, close to the mines of Pakistan and Afghanistan that produce some of the world's finest tourmaline, kunzite, sphene, peridot, aquamarine and spinel.
How every stone is chosen
Every gemstone in our inventory is inspected by hand before it is listed. Our founder checks each stone under the loupe for clarity and cut quality, confirms its identity on the refractometer, polariscope and UV lamp, and photographs it in natural daylight so the colour you see is the colour you receive. Weight, dimensions, origin and any treatment are recorded and stated plainly on the listing.
We buy stones we would be proud to set ourselves: lively cutting, honest colour, and clarity appropriate to the gem species. If a stone does not meet that standard, it does not go online.
On the show floor
International trade fairs are where we source new material first, meet cutters and miners in person and see stones before they reach the wider market. We buy and meet clients at the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, one of the largest coloured-stone fairs in Asia, held each February and September at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
